Portal Haul: Texas Lands Monster DT Ian Geffrard, Overhauls Special Teams
AUSTIN — The Texas Longhorns have made significant waves in the transfer portal over the last 48 hours, addressing key needs on both the defensive line and special teams.
A Mountain in the Middle
The headline addition is Ian Geffrard, a massive defensive tackle transfer from Arkansas. Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 389 pounds, Geffrard brings an imposing physical presence to the interior of the Texas defense. His commitment answers a major need for size and run-stopping ability in the middle.
Special Teams Reset
Head Coach Steve Sarkisian has also completely overhauled the specialist room, securing commitments from a trio of transfers:
- Gianni Spetic (Kicker, Memphis)
- Mac Chiumento (Punter, Florida State)
- Trey DuBuc (Long Snapper, New Mexico)
This targeted approach ensures that the “third phase” of the game will be staffed by experienced veterans in 2026.
Additional Moves
The Longhorns also added tight end depth with Michael Masunas from Michigan State, a crucial pickup following Jack Endries’ departure to the NFL Draft. Rutgers cornerback Bo Mascoe has also joined the fold to bolster the secondary.
On the departure front, former running backs have found new homes: Tre Wisner has committed to Florida State, while Jerrick Gibson is headed to Purdue.
